During the last two or three day# a constant succession of vehicles have been conveying stores and food over the Waikanae for the purpose of holding a grand feast to celebrate the opening of a Native whare karaki. The feasting has been going on during Thursday and Friday, and a large number of Natives are congregated at Makaroro, on the Waikanae. This afternoon there will be a large haka performed, when it is expected there will be a great number of spectators present There has been over 1,500 shares now applied for in the new Gas Company. In consequence of this the Company has been successfully floated and shares are now being al’otted. A communication has been received by the d: c.i from Mr T, Morrin, Auckland, stating that the order for the plant has been despatched, and no time will b 0 lost in commencing operations. It must be acknowledged that the successful position of the Company as far as its maturity is concerned is in a great measure owing to the strenuous exertions made by its energetic secretary, Mr F. J. Piesse.
