(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT). AUCKLAND. A man supposed to be Thomas Graham, has been drowned at Dargaville whilst attempting to stop on board the steamer Durham. Mr Light of Napier, has ordered a new steamer for the Napier-Wairoa trade. She will accommodate thirty saloon passengers. A boy named Hubert Neil got his jammed yesterday by the patent lift at New Zealand Meat Freezing establishment, and received injuries end seriously. The City of Sydney sailed for p.m. last night. She takes for sheep and 41 head of cattle, valued at for Mr Saxe, (who is a passenger.) CHRISTCHURCH. 1 A man named John Wilson has been oom- ’ mitted for trial sn a charge of criminally assaulting a child three years of age at Sydney ham. GREYMOUTH. A quantity of drapery has been found by by the police secreted in a tunnell near where Hughe’s store was burned down. The drapery is supposed to be part of the stockDUNEDIN. Mr Denniston has issued a writ against the 1 Daily Times,’ claiming £6OO damages for an alleged libel in passing notes. Mr Stout is retained for plaintiff, and Mr Smith for the newspaper. The defence is fair comment. At the Police Court yesterdsy the chargee against the butchers for selling adutlerated sausages was dismissed. WELLINGTON. ~7 Yesterday Government received information from Wanganui that M ‘ Rochfort ohe surveyor and party have been again ordered back by the natives belonging to Upper Wanganui. The natives numbered a£put 25, and they fired a volley of blank cartridges over the heads of tne surveyors.
