GISBORNE ROWING CLUB.
The annual general meeting of the above Club was held at the Masonic Hotel on Saturday evening. F. esent: Messrs Ratcliffe, Cresswell, C. Waid, Pavitt, Gibbons, Bullen, Brown, and Bourne. The minutes of the last general meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman, (Mr Ratcliffe), then stated tkat the object of the meeting was for the purpose of receiving the annual report, to elect new members, and to transact general business. Statement of Accounts. The Secretary then read the statement of aoaounts showing the financial position of jJ’fc* Club. The cash io hand was stated to A 1 £8 Is ; subscriptions overdue, (and obtainable) £23; estimated subscriptions for this year £4O odd.
I Mr Pavitt proposed, and Mr Creswell seconded, that the report as read be adopted.—Carried. Election of New Members, The balloting for netf members was then proceeded with when the following gentlemen were declared duly elected :—Messrs C; W. Ferris, D. Isles, R. Watson, G. Morrow, E. F. Sage, A» Gi Allum, J. R; Jameson, and E, Beresford. Election of Officers. Mr C, Ward proposed, and Mr PaVitt seconded, that Mr Allan McDonald be reelected President—Carried. Mr Pavitt proposed, and Mr C, Ward seconded, that Captain Winter be VicePresident. Mr Bourne proposed as an amendment, arid Mr Jamieson seconded, that Mr Locke be Vice-President: On the amendnieat bring put It was carried by the casting vote of the Chairman. Mr Creswell proposed, and Mr Pavitt seconded, that Mr Ratcliffe be elected Captain—Carried unanimously. In returning thanks for the honor done him Mr Ratcliffe expressed his intention of giving the Club some good work thio season, and not allowing it to languish in the manner in which it did last year. They had two splendid boats, equal to anything in the colonies, and every other facility for doing some real good work, and it was his intention to work hard this season and got the Club into a good efficient state. Mr Ratcliffe proposed, and Mr Creswell seconded, that Mr Brown be Treasurer.— Carried Mr Pavitt proposed, and Mr Ratcliffe seconded, that Mr Creswell be re-elected Secretaryi—Carried unanimously. A discussion hare arose as to the necessity of appointing a custodian to look after the boats. It was ultimately decided that Mr O’Meara be asked to accept the position at £5 5s per annum, and a free membership, Mr Bourne was appointed auditor. Messrs Ward, Pavitt, Pollen, Winter, and Barnes, were elected as a committee for the ensiling year. The date of the opening day was left for the decision of the Committee. A Committee meeting was called for Wednesday at 8 p.m. Accounts. The settlement of accounts was left over until next meeting. A vote of thanks to the retiring officers closed the meeting.
