J BATTERY PARADE.
The usual monthly inspection parade of the above corps was held uu Thursday evening. t*reßenL—Captains Porter (in and Winter, Lieutenants (J Ken and Boylan, together with fifty-oue Don commissioned officers and men. After the inspection Lieut. Boylan’s ex >miuatiun, witu a view to promo tion, was proceeded with. This cons.sted of proving and inspecting company, manual and company movements, counter marching, bayonet exercise, forming company square, company exercise in close order, and firing exercise. Field gun drdl, coming into a ition, dismounting and mounting gun aud carriage, and numerous other evomuous. Not with standing that Lieut. Boylan exhibited a liitie natural nervousness he went through his examination in such a commendable and creditable as to give great promise ui his attaining to a high state of proficiency. The following orders were read and promulgated :—“Battery order No. 148. For general information it is notified that the bring for the champion belt will lake place on Wednesday, 17tn October, at 5.50 a.m. Condition as before stated.”
“ Order 149—The following officers and non-commissioned officers arc detailed for orderly duties tor the month of October :— Lieut. U’Ken, oergt. Boland, Corpl. Pavitt, and Bomb. Hansen.”
“ Battery order 149—The class firing of the Battery will commence on Wednesday at 5 30 a.m. ; No 1 detachment to be in attendance; No 2 on Saturday, Oct. 13th, at 2 p.m. ; No 3 ou Saturday, Oct. 20th, at 2pm; and No 4 on Wednesday, Oct. 24th, at 5 30 a m and at subsequent stated periods to be hereafter notified, until every member of the Battery has gone through the course. It is specially pointed out that members not presenting themselves for the class firing will be non-eificient, and in accord nice with article 226 vol. reg. 1882, will be amenable to fine for each absence, and to a further fine of £2 10s, the amount of capitation he could have earned—By order, &c. “ District order—His Excellency the Governor has approved of the following officers to be a Board of Examination of officers—Major T. V. Sheppard. Captain i Porter, and Captain G. J. Winter.” We heard it rumored that a large number of t members have decided to resign, but trust

The attention to their duties shown by the men together with the clean and smart appearance combined with soldiery deportment, and bearing, entitles them to these w*llearned compliment!.
