RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.—GISBORNE.
Barrington v. W. E. Cooper—Claim £5 2s, for work done.
Mr Brassey for plaintiff, and Mr Kenny for defendant. The defence was that the plaintiff was engaged at £1 per week, and not at 25b, as alleged. Evidence having been taken, His Worship gave judgment for £3 2s, and costs £2 4s. Nicholas v. Otene Pomabv — Claim £4 2b 6d, on a judgment summons. An order was made that the amount be paid on or before the 9th of October, 1883. W. Smith v. Pi war a—Judgment was given for the plaintiff for £1 6s fid, with costs, £2 Ils,
Prohibition Order—On the application of Mr P. Barrie, a prohibition order waa made for 12 months to prevent D. Ferguson receiving liquor. T. D, McDougall v. Mrs E. Clarke-—(as executrix of the will of the Ute W. Clarke). Claim £35 Ida, for monies due to the plaintiff by the Ute Wm. CUrke, Mr Nolan appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr Turton for the defendant. Mr Turton contended that the Southern Cross Petroleum Company were ihe parties liable for the debt and not the defendant. Mr Nolan submitted that the defendant was liable for the debt, as the accounts for it had always been made out and rendered to Mr W. CUrke. After considerable evidence had been taken, His Worship decided to nonsuit the plaintiff, on a portion of the amount, viz., £33 3s, because it was only an arrangement between counsels. The balance £2 12b being illegal, he would dismiss it. Wednesday. Drunkeness.—Petira Tahua was brought up and fined 20s for the above offence, in default of payment 48 hours imprisonment.
