MEETING OF THE FIRE BRIGADE.

The first mee’ing uf the newly formed Fire Brigade was held last night at the shed. There was a goud attendance, the fullowing being present:—Messrs Winter (Superintrn dent) Pavitt, lowuley, Humphries, &agc, Moore, Dunne, Karam, McGowan, Haache. Two fresh members were elected, viz., Messrs Morrison and George, this made a total of 12 members, being three below the standard, which is 15. Captain Winter opened the proceedings, and mentioned that the first business was tne election of officers. It was his opinion that a deputy superintendent and one foreman should be appointed, but he s .ould like the opinion of all others. A long discussion nere ensued as to the advisability of having a deputy superintendent and one foreman, or two foremen only, senior and junior, and it was finally resolved on the motion of Mr fcage, to have a deputy superintendent and one foreman. On the motion of Mr Dunne, Mr Sage was appointed Secretary and Treasurer of the Brigade. The following officers were duly elected ;— J. Townley, Dtmuty Superintendent; E. H Pavitt, senior Foreman ; D. Dunne, Junior Foreman; G Humphries, Firstßranchinan; M‘Gowan, Second Branchman. It was decided for the present to hold four drills in each month, to take place tn each Wednesday at seven o’clock, and that there be no subscriptions. Captain Winter mentioned that Dr. Leggaot had offered his bervices gratuvously, in case of accident to any member in performing their duties. The Secretary was' ordered to write to Dr. Leggatt thanking him for his kind offer. Captain Winter thought the uniform was good enough for the purpose It co.nprised serge Garnbaldi jumper and pants, with cordpiping red cuffs and collar on the c oat, an d French peak cap. The old badge will still be Uggj, This terminated the proceedings.
