A SEVERE SENTENCE.

A court-martial was held on board Her Majesty’s ship Victory, tender to the Duke of Wellington flagship, in Portsmouth Harbour, for the trial of Sublieutenant Hon. Philip Bmirchier Tynvliitt, and S h-lieutenant William James, of Iler Majesty’s ship Impregnable, the former serving on the Nautilus and the latter on the Pilot, for being guilty of cordr.ct nnbeco ainj officers and gentleman in t iat they b. in a scandalous manner to Captain Adeane, of the Shannon, and the boat’s crew o his galley; that they behaved with contempt to the same officer, and that they made a false statement as to the ships to which they belonged. The prisoners were stated to have come down to the pier at Mill Bay, Plymouth, and there found Captain Adean’s galley moored al >ngsi'ie. They commenced to chaff the crew, and urged the water man who was taking them aboard their ships to beat off *’ that old gooby crw.” When asked what ship they belonged to by Captain Adeane, they said the Shannon. He told them they did not, as ht» was captain of that ship. They then slid that they were not officers but were gentlemen, and did not belong to the service. The Court found the charges proved, and the prisoners, in accordance with the 28th section of the Naval Discipline Act, were sentenced to be dismissed from Her Majesty’s service.
