(tbom our own correspondent.) MELBOURNE, August 18th. The Chamber of Manufactures have passed a resolution rejesting Mr Twopenny’s proposal in favor of holding a Colonial Exhibition in London, but at the same time thanking him for his suggestion. Mauritius advices to the sth inst. state that the sugar season opens at the end of this month, when higher prices are expected. A man who has been identified as Joe Smith, the Irish informer, has arrived here from Sydney. It has been ascertained that his passage was taken under an assumed name.
