CORRESPONDENCE.

We do not hold ourselves responsible for the opinions expressed by our correspondents]. :o: WIRE PULLING. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I was much surprised at reading the letter which appeared in your last issue of the Standard, to see that my friend, Mr. A. G. Gibbs, who is such a practical workman and proprietor of the most extensive ehop in the Colony, and who employs such a number of practical workmen, and who is himself a practical watchmaker, clockmaker, jeweller’ goldsmith, silversmith, gilder and electfi* plater, and who is such a grand workman tliHt he ctt’i teach me how to perform work that a boy of eight years can easily perform. No doubt I have learnt a great deal of him, and amongst other things, how to get a cheap advertisement. If I knew as much as Mr. Gibbs I would certainly save an inch or two in my advertisement by culling mv*elf *• Jock of t>U Trades.” In f*»« t I feel half inclined to give up my small shop and go and rerre my time again with Mr. Gibbs, he being s man of such great parts and vast experience, whereas 1 have seen nothing in my travels from Copenhagen to B j rlin. and from there to Wellington, and various experien »es since in these Colonics, and yet it was left to Mr. to instruct me in wire making, especally as Mr. Gibbs’s experience only extends tn (>maru. Christchurch and Gisborne, where I suppose they are so much cleverer than on the Continent I ain compelled to acknowledge to the Gisborne public my gratitude to Mr. Gibbs for teaching mo so much, and for the loan of his tools. I am, fic. t W. H. Schippmu
