On Tuesday night the County Council voted the handsome donation of £5O to the Ho.-pital funds. This amount was objected to by some members for two reasons, thefirst one being the present pauperised state of the County finances, and the second ihat the Boruugn Council had only voted £25. The first objection was met by the Chairman stating chat the County Council would shortly be in ample funds. Councillor Gannon, whilst admitting that the institution was one of all others deserving the utmost support, yet in his opinion the Council was not justified in giving more than £25. Councillor Johnson wished to know the proportion of County patients as against Borough patients admitted to the Hospital. lie thought the Borough should give equally with the County. Councillor Ferris regretted that the Borough hud not thought lit to give more than £25, but for al! that he would support the motion lor £u-J. Councillor Gannon cuuld not see how they were relieved from the responsibility of burying paupers when the Government had distinctly stated that the local bodies were responsible in the matter. In answer to this the Chairman stated that the Hospital authorities had agreed, in consideration of an annual subsidy, to undertake the interment of all paupers. This so far satisfied the Councillors that the opinions were equally divided, and the casting vote of the Chairman secured to the institution, together with subsidy of the handsome sum of £lOO.
