We think that, whatever may be the result of the application to Government, the warm thanks of the public are due to our worthy Mayor, Mr E. K. Brown and Borough Councillor Townley for their indefatigable and successful exertions in this matter of the Turanganui Bridge. We say it advisedly that had it not been for the untiring real displayed by these two gentlemen, who, at the sacrifice of much valuable time and personal comfort, have been unceasing in their endeavours, both in the Borough Council and as deputation from one Council to the other, to bring the affair to a suecesful issue, the matter would have fell through long ago. This has also been successfully accomplished in spite of the clogging Chrispo-Herald element, who would “ rather build a ship than a bridge - a ship that would have the knack of butting at beacons, while under the command of “ Scotch navigation ” captains'
