J The adjourned meeting of the Dramatic Entertainment Committee was held last night at the Masonic Hotel, when it was decided to play the “ Ticket of Leave Man ” for Mr. N. Thornton’s benefit. The first rehearsal will take place on Monday at 7 p.m. in Parnell & Boylan’s Hall. Purchasers of totara posts should apply to Mr. H. E. Johnstone, the wharf. A grand festival will be held to-day at the Big River, where Mr. Ned Devery will regale his friends. The Orange Ball held in the Makaraka Hall on Thursday evening last was a great success. Mr Sam, Stevenson had the hall tastefully decorated with evergreens. Mr T. Roberts’s catering was beyond praise, while the M.C. (Mr P. Bond) conducted the proceedings in a highly pleasing manner. Mr Cullimore’s music was fully appreciated by the dancers who numbered about twentyfive couples. Our new and genial confectioner, Mr Jas Clayson will open the “ Red House ” premises for the sale of good and wholesome bread and fancy goods of all description. The shop has been fitted up appropriately and well. We wish Air Ciayson all kinds of success on this his opening day. The Rev. Theophilus Le Menant Des Chesnais will deliver a lecture on temperance this (Saturday) evening in the Catholic Church. A meeting of the Land Nationalisation Society is advertised to take place on Tuesday evening next at 7.30 p.m. in the Good Templar Hall, when the question of Land Tenure will be discussed. All those interested in this subject arc invited to attend. Any of our small farmers wishing to dispose of their farms, now have the opportunity of go doing. Our reference to our advertisement columns it will be seen that Mr A. Smith is desirous of purchasing or leasing. Mr Dwan is not satisfied with the decision of the Government in the Longhurat case, and the matter will shortly be brought before Parliament, a member having promised to move for a Select Committee to enquire into the case.
