SPORTING.

We are informed on reliable authority that Mr William Cooper of the Waorenga-a-hiku Hotel, has purchased the well-known thoroughbred race-horse Bothwell, from Mr W. Black, of Patutahi, and we believe it is the intention of this gentleman to put this grand horse to the stud once more, aud he should certainly be a success, as the following pedigree will show that he is a good one : —Traitor, dam Myrtle, by Golden Grape (imp.) out of Moss Rose. Traitor by Traducer, out of Deception, by Young Plover, Vanity by Sir Charles, Giggler by Tomboy, Duchess of York by Waxy, Moses dam by Johanna, Gray Skin by Woodpecker, Herod, Golden Grape (imp.) by Barnton out of Hoppicker by Orlando out of Holbine by Sir Hercules. Barton is a brother to that famous horse Voltigeur.” We wish the spirited proprietor success in his plucky venture. A correspondent, writing to the editor of the “ Sporting Times,” says “ I have discovered thirty-four synonyms for intoxication, which may interest your readers, viz. Bosky, bufl’y, boozey, lushy, tight’, foggy, screwed, hazy, mooney, muddled, muzzey, snipey, lumpy, muggy, beery, slewed, groggy, ploughed, cut, half -seas over, mops and brooms, far gone, speechless, paralytic, blind, sewed up, obfuscated, drunk, tipsy, inebriated, three sheets in the wind, on the ran-tan, in his cups, on the bust.”
