HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT.
TO THI. SDITOR, Str, —Seeing that a meeting of subscribers to the Hospital funds is convened for the 4th of July, I take this opportunity of ex* pressing‘the views of myself and some friends regarding the management of this institution. Hitherto the hospital has been literally “ farmed.” This must be put a stop to. No person having innuencej however slight, in the Hospital Committee shall be allowed to derive a pecuniary benefit directly or indirectly from the institution, except by salary or bonus, duly and publicly authorised. No goods, stores, drugs, furniture, or articles of any kind whatever shall be purchased except by contract publicly tendered for, and any expenditure of petty case shall be disbursed at the stores or shops of the con tractors, who, if they have not the required article in stock, shall purchase, and supply the demand, Visitors, shall be elected from all classes, who shall visit the Hospital at such times as they consider right and needful, and report monthly to the Committee on the result of their visits, AH duly qualified medical men and recognised clergymen resident in Poverty Bay district shall be members of the Hospital Committee by virtue of their professions without the form of election. Every subscriber, however small, shall have one vote, and no subscriber, however large, shall have more than one vote in hospital matters. 1 think these regulations would be productive of good, and put a stop to the flagrant “farming” of the institution hitherto carried on.—l am, &e., A Subscriber.
