Mr Clayson, of Masterton, arrived from that place by the last steamer. We believe it is this gentleman’s intention to start business as a pastry cook, purveyor, Ac., in this place. The following is taken from the Wairarapa Daily :—Mr Clayson, with his wonted cordiality, entertained a number of his friends at the Union Cafe last evening, prior to hia departure for Gisborne. For fourteen years Mr Clayson has been a wellknown citizen of Masterton, and on his retirement from this community he deserves a word of commendation—not as a first-class pastry-cook, an excellent purveyor of festivities, a talented architect of wedding cakes, and a premier fruiterer—and he has been ail these, but he has been something more—whenever any entertainment has been organised for the benefit of the sick, poor, and unfortunate, Mr Clayson has been one of the most capable and willing volunteers, POBsexing. as he does, vocal and histrionic talents of no mean order, he has on such occasions been a host in himself. We wish him every success in his new sphere of operations. The application to the Government under the Roads ami Bridge* Construction Act for Cook County was forwarded to Wellington by yesterday’s mail.
