It being the generally accep‘ed idea that the application for the £4.003 under the Roads an! Bridges Act for the construction of the Turanjranui BrTclge is virtually abandoned on account of the want of unanimi'y and interest shewn by the County Council in the affair; also, that the County Council had refused to make a joint application in the manner proposed by the Borough Council, we heg distinctly to inform our reader-* tha' such is not the case. The County Council, at their last meeting, agreed unanimously to join the Borough Council in making the application; but stated that they wish- d it to be distinctly understood that though the whole of the money obtained w «uld be handed to the Borough Council to be expended on the bridge, yet they (the County Council) would only hold themselves responsible for the re-pay-ment on £l,OOO, viz, £250, as resolved in May last I'hough the Council appear, and no doubt are. less earnest in this subject than the Borough Council, yer they have not, up to the present moment, in any way obstructed the project. Having agreed in conjunction with the Borough Council to make the application, the only thing that remains to be done i« for the two Councils, at their next meeting, to arrange Ihe terms of application to the Government. When the amount of the grant i« ascertained and received, then will be time enough to arrange the mode and ratio of refunding to Government the small amount of £25 per annum for ten years for each £l,OOO obtained. Really the affair at present seems to be progressing most favorably.
