THE GOVERNOR’S RECEPTION AND THE EIGHT GREYS.

TO TH! XDITOX. Sib,—I see that in two different letters which appeared in the papers last week that my name is brought prominently forward, which I deem sufficient excuse for troubling you with the present letter. Mr Boylan made one or two slight errors in his statement, which will be explained hereafter. With reference to that of 8 M. Wilson, I am somewhat un. willing to notice it at all, but simply treat it and the writer with the contempt they deserve. However, I think the braggadocia of the man is so thoe roughly known, that a passing come ment is sufficient. As to the charges made by 8. M. Wilson, I think it is best left to the public to judge as to its exorbitancy or otherwise, but will merely remark that had the come mil tee (who passed the account) to pay the same out of their own pockets, they would have considered it exorbitant. But to refer to the statement I wish to make. A dav or two before the Governor’s arrival I spoke to one or two of the committee men as to the traps that would bo required for the occasion (naturally supposing Mr S. M. Wilson’s traps and my own would be required). I was referred to Mr E. K. Brown, and was told that he had the arranging of everything. I went to him when after • little con* versation, he asked me if I could turn out four greys and a carriage ? I said *’ Certainly; and as good or better than could be turned out in Gisborne." He asked me if I would do it for nothing. I said “ No; but that I would cut it very low so long as it paid expenses." He told me 8. M. Wilson had offered to do it free of chatge, and would give the whple turn out or nothing. How* ever, he was to bring the matter before the committee, when it would bo de* cided. I was told after the meeting that 8. M. Wilson had got the sup* plying of the traps, and that he was doing the same free of any charge.— I am, &c., B. C. Fbibb.
