GISBORNE HARBOR BOARD,

The usual meeting of the above Board was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening. Present—Messrs E. K. Brown (chairman), Whinray, Townley, Brown, Tutchen, and Lewis. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, and the Board then Went into the foreshore question. The following letter from Messrs Common, Shelton and Co. was read ;—Gentlemen, — We have received your favor of March Sth, and, having taken advice on the matter, regret we cannot adopt the idea contained in your resolution, but in order to facilitate a settlement of the question we are quite willing to refer the whole matter tc arbitration, and will be willing to meet a committee of the Harbor Board to arrange the terms and conditions of such abitration.—Yours, &c., Common’, Shelton & Co. It was resolved to let the consideration of this communication stand over until a reply was received from Government re the Harbor grants. It was resolved to hold a special meeting of the Board next Tuesday. The Crank. Mr Lewis thought It better to order a new one at once. Mr Brown stated it would cost about £2OO at the least for a new one, and strongly advised the Board to order one from the manufacturers at Home, who would supply one fully 25 per cent cheaper than one could be purchased from the dealers. The question was ordered to stand over until next meeting. Plans and Specifications of new Wharf. Th« Chairman thought it advisable that the Engineer should personally submit the plans and Rpeeifications to the Government, as he could then explain everything, which would certainly expedite matters greatly. Carried. Harbor Dues. The Lucy James was refused a berth until her previous dues were paid. By-laws. The question of framing the Harbor Board By-laws was brought forward by the Secretary. The Chairman proposed that they should be framed after the Auckland Harbor Board by-laws.
