Recent intelligence to hand from New Caledonia states that the official proclama* tian which has been issued at Noumea announces that the transportation of French convicts to Nev.’ Caledonia will cease after six years. April 1". The annual report of the Australian Mutual Provident Society, for the last year shows that the business was larger than that of any previous year, and comprised 6400 policies for assurances amounting to £2,280, 000. The new premiums amounted to £92.500. The accumulated fund has been increased by £520,000, and it now stands at £4.350,000. The total annual revenue is £885,000. The receipts from interest exceed the amounts paid for death claims by £68,000. The seventh quinquennial division of surplus will be made up to the end of the year, and hereafter the profit will be divided annually.
