Messrs Graham, Pitt and Bennett will sell by public auction at their mart on Saturday, the 21st April, at 2 p.m., by order of the mortgagee, section 51, being one acre, town ship of Ormond, and dwelling-houses, bakery, large stable, blacksmith’s shop, and all other buildings thereon. The section adjoins Mr P. Barrie’s store.
Our contemporary is evidently not an authority on telegraph stations. It speaks of communication with Auckland and this port being interrupted. As a matter of fact all Auckland telegrams are sent to Napier, thence to Gisborne We simply mention this for our contemporary’s information. We are glad to see that Mr Gillion is coming to his senses, and has agreed to accept the sum of £4 royalty and 2 guineas cost from the principal in settlement of all claims re the “ Mariner’s Compass,” In the first place Mr Gillon made a demand for £4 royalty and C 5 costs from each of the performers, and as there were twelve this demand amounted to no less than £lOB. Why should Mr Gillon try to extort this large sum, and when he sees it resisted offer to take the comparatively small sum of £9 ? This sort of thing is calculated to cast a very doubtful shade on the matter. There was no telegraphic communication with Napier up to our going to press. As there is a slight response at low water, and none at high water, the probability is that a post has blown down near the sea, and that the wire is immersed in water at high tide, There will be a busy time at the R. M. Court to-day. there being a case of indecent exposure, and one of larceny, in addition to a considerable amount of civil business. There w'ere a number of typographical errors in our last issue, but the fact is that a column of reading matter pissed into the paper without a proof having been corrected. We apologise, but we cannot recall the many absurdities. A meeting of persons interested in the gas question was held at the office of Mr Piesse with a view of deciding the question of forming a gas company in Gisborne. Messrs W. Adair, W. Maude, S. M. Wilson, R Hill Fisher, and J. H. Stubbs, are to act as Provisional Directors, and Mr Piesse as Secretary. Another meeting wdll be held this day week. When is a pig the heaviest?—When he is led (lead). Why is avarice like a bad memory ?—Because it is always for-getting.
