Paaaengers—Mrs Reid, Miss Gibbons, Miss McDonald, Messrs Walsh and Horne. The 8.8. Wairarapa arrived about 2.30 yesterday afternoon from Auckland. She left for the south the same day. The schooner Lucy James, could not leave for Napier yesterday, as there was too heavy a sea on the bar. She haa a cargo of 10 bales of wool and 30 bags of grass seed, and is prepared to leave directly the weather abates. The New Zealand Shipping Company have received telegraphic advices of the sailing of the s.s. British Queen for Wellington. Taking her passage at 50 days, she may be looked for about the 13th May. The Southern Cross remained in the bay till 3 o'clock on Thursday afternoon J but on account of the rough weather, she proceeded to Nick’s Head, where she lay to till yesterday morning, when the weather had abated. She then steamed into the Bay again, and discharged her passengers. She left last night for Auckland, taking 350 fat aheep, which were shipped by Mr George Scott. On the 28th December H. M‘lntyre and Co. launched from their shipbuilding yard at Markswortb, Paisley, the Orowaiti, an iron screw steamer of 700 tons, built to the order of the Westport Company, of New Zealand, under the sup rinteadence of Mr John Darling. The Orowaiti is classed 100 Al at Lloyd Y a, and fitted with all |the latest improvements as a cargo steamer. She is a sister ship of the Kawatiri, lunched in August for the same firm.
