; A meeting of the Harbor Board is to be , held this evening, but they have nothing ! whatever to do ; no communication has been ! received from the Government, and in fact the Board has merely a nominal existence, i being simply a nonentity. It is about time I that vigorous steps should be taken; letter j after letter has been written, and letter after I has been received, but no satisfaction has ! been given from head quarters. Our member j has certainly not shown up in favorable I colors in the matter of the vesting of the foreshores in the Harbor Board. He has been openly accused of having advised the Government to withhold this handing over until Messrs Common, Shelton & Co.’s claim was settled, but he has never disclaimed the truth of the accusation. The only way we can see is that a deputation consisting of His Worship the Mayor and one of the most experienced and intelligent Councillors should visit Wellington and peri sonally demand from the Government the course it is intended to take. Let them go ; there at the expense of the ratepayers and : let them stay there until they obtain some : definite answer. It is treating our so-called Harbor Board as an assinine stable, and we shall be very sorry if *by inertness we are compelled to confirm that opinion.
