[By Cable.—Reuter’s Telegrams]. A. J. 0. MEETING. SYDNEY, March 26. The first day’s racing of the Australian Jockey Club Autumn Meeting took place today. The weather was splendid. A large number of people were on the course. Tne following are the results :— Hurdle Race. 24 miles : Marrigal, 1 | Satelite, 2 ; First 'fry, 3. Autumn Stakes, 1A miles : Assyrian, 1 | Plunger, 2 ; Darebin, 3. A splendid race» won by hulf-a-neck. St. Leg er Stakes, miles: Navigator* 1 ; Morpeth, 2; Nicholas, 3. Only three started for this event. Morpeth led for about a mile, when Navigator came with a rush and won in a canter. Time, 3mina lOsecs. Doncaster Handicap, one mile and a furlong : Sardonyx,.,! ; Gloucester, 2 ; Creewick, 3. Latest Cup Batting. SYDNEY, March 28th. Mistaken and Willeroo are now at 5 to 1 for the Cup to be run for to-day. Rain fell here last night, but although it has now cleared off, the weather is still unsettled. Christchurch Autumn Stacos. CHRISTCHURCH, March 27, The weather is beautiful for the races, The attendance is large, and the racing good The following are the results of the differ* » nt events :— Free Handicap : Siesta, 1 j Gltana, 2 | Sou’-Wester, 3. Won easily by two lengths. Autumn Handicap : Welcome Jack, .1 ; Tasman, 2 ; Lady Emma, 3. Nonpariel, Salvage, Luna, and the Jilt, also ran. The betting at the post wae 5 to 2 against Welcome Jack and Tasman, <3 to 1 against Salvage, and sto 1 against Ludy Emma. Salvage and Tasman had the best of a good start, with Ludy Emma close at their heels. At Cutts’ Nonpariel came through his horses, and at the mile post led by a good length, Tasman, Salvage, Welcome Jack, and Lady Emma being moat prominent. On entering the straight Tasman had a ; slight lead of Salvage. Welcome Jack, how< 1 ever, immediately his head was let go drew up to Salvage ami Tasman, and won by two lengths from Tasman, who was about three lengths oft* Lady Emma, Salvage fourth. Time : 2min, 3(Rsec.; the fastest on record in 1 New Bcm land. Champagne Stakes ; Water Nymph, 1 ; i Sir Belvedere, 2 ; Fair Agnes colt, 3. This [ event was won easily. Hunt Cup ; Gladiator, 1 ; Michael Scotti 2 ; Overdraft, 3. Two others started* Welter Handicap : Leos, 1 ; Jack, 2 I Gitana, 3. Won easily by three lengths. SECOND DAY. Yesterday. Thu attendance at the second days races was poor. The weather was spl-mdid. Tho following are the results of the different events :— Nursery Handicap : Sir Belvedere, 1 ; Water Nymph, 2 : Fair Agnes, colt, 3 ; Epicure and Albany started. Belvedere won easily by a length. Easter Handicap ; Gitana, 1 ; Luna, 2. Welcome Jack, 3. Only three started; Welcome Jack finished a length from Luna. Steeplechase Handicap. : Canard, 1 ; Clarence, 2 ; Quamby, 3. Melbourne, Overdraft, and Koscuisco, also started. At the fence opposite the Grand Stand, Overdraft came down, Canard taking the lead, with Clarence close up. At the double jump, near Ford’s Clarence assumed tho lead, with Quamby third. Through Melbourne unseating his jockey, the positions varied little until entering the straight, when Canard went to the front and won easily Time—7 mins, .30 secs. Selling Race : |Gitana, 1 ; Sou-’wester, 2. Envy filly, If So, Supplejack, and Jack also ran. Leos bolted off the course, Gitana won with ease. Flying Handicap i The Jilt, 1 ; Whiteback, 2; Emir Boy 3. Siesta, Envy filly, Luna, and Nonpariel started. The Jilt won after a good race by a bare length. Consolation Race : This event was won easily by Jack. Salo of Racing StockMessrs Newton and Son held a sale of thoroughbred racing stock to-day. The following were the principal lots disposed of :— Bay filly, Speargrass, .3 years, by Traducer—Toi Toi, 200 guineas, Mr G. G. Stead. Brown Colt, Madman, 2 years, by Leolinus—Lorient, 70 guineas, Mr P. Martin.
