BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual meeting of the above was held on Tuesday evening. Present—His Worship the Mayor, Crs. Townley, Chrisp, Lewis, Tutchen, Whinray, Brown, Smith, and Tucker. The minutes of the previous and special meetings were read and confirmed. The outgoing correspondence was read and approved. A let'er was read from K. H. Browne, re the water supply. From the Town Clerk, Ashburton, rc pipes, ami as to the price, f.o.b. From what was stated, it would be only about half the coat to procure them from England. A communication from Messrs Boylan and London, rc the water supply, staling that they would, for £25, visit Gisborne and endeavor to discover the best means of supplying the town with water. | Mr J. W. Wade also wrote relative to a j water supply for Gisborne, from a stream on J the Whataupoko. I It was proposed by Cr. Whinray, “That I a deputation from the Council consisting of His Worship. CTs. Chrisp, Brown, Townley, i and the Engineer, with Mr Wade, visit the ' spot, and report to the next meeting.” This | was seconded by Cr. Lewis, and carried. ' The report of the Finance Committee was | read ami adopted. i The pay.’m n p.issrd were General Fund £lO4 12s hl, special payment (Cxenham’s contract) £lBO. it was resolved that Crs. Townley, Smith, j Chrisp, ami Tucker appointed to revise the j by-laws.
The phin of the Borough Reserves were reported to have been sent to Napier. Messrs Boylan and Lundon’s letter was next discussed, and It was resolved “That the Council decline W accept the suggestion of tho writers of the communication, pending the further consideration of the water supply scheme.” it was proposed by Ur, Chrisp, seconded by Cr. Lewis. “That tenders be called for tho removal of the shed and the alterations.” Carried. It was decided that the present contractor for lighting the lamps, should be requested to keep on for another month. It was resolved that tenders should be called for carting. It was moved that Crs. Tucker, Townley, s mith, and His Worship be appointed a deputation to wait upon the County Council <>n Thursday next (to-day), asking them to give a definite promise uf £lOOO to assist in building the Turanganui bridge ; also, to get a definite answer as tn allowing the rails to remain on the vo ids for another 12 months. Resolved, “That if a satisfactory reply be received from the Council, steps be taken to take a poll of the ratepayers.” It was moved and carried, “ That all persons encroaching on any of the streets of tho i Borough, be notified that they must hold themselves in readiness to remove such en- ; crouch incuts when so notified by the Council.”
