Deakin, Minister of Public Works, was re-elected, defeating Sir Bryan O'Loughlin by a large majority. I’he following was the state of the poll : Deakin, 1818; O’Loughlin, 1186. March 2". The Melbourne Manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New’Zealand reports of tne local grain market as follows :—Wheat, very flat at 5s 3d to 5s 4d ; malting barley, quieter, at 5s 3d to 5s Qd ; New Zealand oats in fair derhand. feed oats are worth 2s 10'1 to 3s 2d, and milling sorts 3s 2d to 3s 4d ; New Zealand oats, under bond, are slow of sale at 2s 3d to 2s 4d. SYDNEY, March 27. The Easter encampment of Volunteers at Windsor and Middlehead passed off most successfully. There was an immense traffic yesterday on the trams and railways, ami i the harbor steamers were crowded with excursionists. /It one of the favorite resorts, Balmoral, the steamer jetty, when covered with people, collapsed, and numbers were precipitated into the water, but ail were speedily rescued.
