This event caused much amusement, as it was very clntely contested, the judge’s flat being a dead heat between T. Weston and Henare Totara. In the run off, however, Weston won easily. OLD M KN’d RACE, over 40—1st prize, 20s j 2nd, 10s. Entrance, 2s fid. For this J. Siddons, G. Burnand, Stevenson, G. Rowley, and D. Hepburn started, and amidst a vast amount of merri* meat Burnand was proclaimed the winner. Burnand 1 Hepburn ... ... ... ~, 2 Siddons ’ ... 3 A protest was entered by the on the ground that the winner was not MF HIGH JUMP (Running).—Prize, 30* Ea trahee, 2s 6d. D. Dunlop, G. Wyllie, J. Carroll, T. AL bert, Weston, T Price, and Henare competed. After a spirited contest, during which there was an excellent display of jumping, Dunlop cleared sft l£ln and wan, Albert being next man. EASTER HANDICAP (Second Event, 200 Yanis). This was a most exciting race. A capital start was effected. Asmus, 7 yards, McFarlane, scratch. J. McFarlane, 8 were the only ones in it, and up to moment it was impossible to toll who be the winner, but C. McFarlane camo wmi a rush at the finish and breasted the tape about six inches ahead of Asmus, who led J. McFarlane by about three-quarters of a yard.

McFarlane having 10 yards, and Asmus 9 yards. Asmus was the first to get away, but the two McFarlanes running strong, bore him down, the result being— 1 C. McFarlane 1 J. McFarlane 2 H. Asmass 3 PUTTING STONE.—Prize. 20s. Entrance' Is. Prize 20s. There, wore only three competitors in this event. Carroll 1 Burnand 2 CONSOL \TION HANDICAP.—For all defeated competitors.— Prize, 40s. Entrance, 2s fid. For all defeated competitors. Prize 40s. Asmuss, scratch, J. McFarlane, 2 yards, George, 4 yards, and S. Doltnan, 6 yards, started for this event, and after a magnifificeut race, Asmus and McFarlane breasted the tape together. The judge decided it to be a dead heat, and the competitors agreed to divide the stakes. THROWING THE HAMMER.—Prize,2os.' Entrance, 2s 6d. Prize 20s. A Carroll. 68ft. 9in. ... 1 M Price, 68ft 7in 2 HIGH JUMP FOR HORSES.-Prize, £5. This was an exciting contest, the horses engaged in it being Sailor, Fly, Progress, . ..otero, Mary, Lizard, Peggy and Ridiculous. The jumping was excellent, and resulted in a win for Mr T. Albert’s Mary, which was admirably ridden by J. McEwan. HURRY SCURRY STAKES-A sweepstakes of 10s. Distance 1 mile. For this event, Sailor, Venture, Mormon, Blucher, King Billy, K arai tian a. Brunette, and Progress started. Tho lot got well away, and after a close race the result was— K. Nasmith’s Blucher (Durston) ... )• J. R.
