Hawke's Bay Education Board.

We extract the following items of interest to our readers from the Hawke’s Bay “ Hera’d.” The Board met at Napier on the 20th March, 1883. Present—Mr J, D. Ormond (chairman), Rev. D. Sidey, Mr Sutton, M H R.. Mr J. N. Williams, and Mr R Harding. The following tender was accepted for the Gisborne infant school : R. Houldcn, £777. Correspondence was received from the Gis- ' borne Committee, stating that the section the Board had decided to buy as an extension 1 ot the school site had ch tnged hands, and could nut be bought under an advance of I’2o -£l7O instead of £l5O. The Chairman stated that he had authorised the purchase, as the offer would not be : left open. The purchase was approved. From the Gisborne Committee, urging the I necessity for additional provision for warming the school : for a concrete water tank with a force pump ; and for a grant of £7 for gravelling the playground. The Board approved the erection of two chimneys out of the four asked for : the architect was instructed to report upon the I request for a tank. Grant approved. From the Ormond Committee (Gisborne), asking whether there was any chance of a teacher residence being built, as the teacher could not obtain a house. The Secretary stated that the house was no doubt very much needed, but no funds ; were available, Reply to be sent to that i effect.
