[rbutbr's tblxoramb]. LONDON, March 6. A severe gale, accompanied by a heavy fall of snow has been experienced over the greater part of England. Much damage has been caused onfland by wind and snow drifts and many disasters at sea are reported, Owing to the severity of the gale which raged along the coast. It is reported that Sir John Henry LeFroy will assume the Governorship of Ceylon for the year, pen ling the arrival of Sir Arthur Gordon. At to-day's wool sale 12,500 bales were offered, but a less demand was experienced, and prices were occasionally easier, except for Port Philip and Sydney good greasy and good combing wools. Generally for these descriptions prices are firm. The markets for Colonial breadstuff's and tallow are work, but quotations are without change, March 8 (tic), In the House of Commons to-day a Bill forbidding the use of pigeons at shooting matches was read a second time. At the wool tale to-day, 11,900 bales were catalogued. There was a good demand for fine wools, but inferior and medium qualities were neglected. P, and O, steamship Ballarat from Melbourne (January 17) arrived at Plymouth today. Homeward mails via Naples, which left Melbourne per John Elder, January 24; delivered here to-day.
