It is understood that two prominent members of the Irish National party, Dillar and Gill, who represent the counties of Tiperary and West Meath, will resign their seats in the House of Commons. There is considerable agitation in the South of France, caused by the recent aggressive attitude of the legitimist party in pushing the claims of Count de Chambord. The Government are taking precautions to prevent disturbances between the partisans of the Count and the ponublican party, which is looked on as very likely to occur. The number of informers who volunteer to give evidence against their Fenian associates increases daily. The convict Devine recently made important disclosures. Trevelyan, Chief Secretary for Ireland, has gone on a visit to England. He will be closely guarded by a body of special constabulary during his stay. It is not believed that the Defailliers Government can be of any long duration. It is generally anticipated that Ferry will replace the present premier, and that more stringent policy will then be pursued with respect to the expulsion from France of members of ex-reigning houses.
The Porte is endeavoring by secret intrigues to restore Turkish supremacy in Egypt. The Natives of the latter country are exceedingly insulting in their demeanor towards the English soldiers, whom they no longer regard with the same awe as hitherto. The False Prophet of Soudan is pursuing a victorious career in that province, having on several occasions defeated the Egyptian troops sent against him. The anti-slavery society have addressed an official letter to the “ Times" newspaper animadverting on the fact to some Singalese immigrants having been imprisoned on Bun daling, Queensland, for refusing to work according to the terms of their agreement with their employer. The balance of the fund initiated by the Duchess of Marlborough some years ago for the relief of distress in Ireland, is to be expended in promoting emigration from that country. Negotiations are in progress between the English and Mexican Governments for the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
