There is a block of land called Akuaku l situated in the District of Poverty Bay, which haa not yet been surveyed, or the owners ascertained by the Native Land Court—so that it is not known who are the real owners of the land—in reference to which I publish this for the information of all people. Myself and my relatives have applied for a survey to be made of that land in order that the owners of it may be ascertained by the Court. Now Major Ropata, who is a Government Officer receiving regular pay, and ought to support and carry out the law of the Qoeen, has prevented a survey of that land being made, lest it should be brought before the Court, and has taken upon himself, I hear, to lease the land to Messrs Porter and Croft. Now under these circumstances, I hereby inform any Europeans who intend to put Stock upon that land that neither their Cattle, nor Horses, Sheep, Cate, nor Rats will be ALLOWED to REMAIN ON IT; if stock is put on the Land half a minute will not elapse before we turn them off. 0, yc Maoris, and also halfcastes, who have taken upon yourselves without authority to lease my land—Akuaku—and ye who prevented a survey of it, Hearken that ye may hear. The Stock of those Europeans whom ye have deluded into giving you money, shall never remain on my place; the hour that they are put on the place will be the time that great difficulties will arise. But if the land is allowed to paca the Court, after the title has been investigated and the owners ascertained, then will ba the time when you or I, or all of us together will be justified in dealing with that land, but now you have no right whatever to do so.
