TOO GOOD.
The following is stated to have occurred in Wellington during the festivities oonnected with the reception of the new Governor. Our readers can believe as much or aa little of the flag “ yarn "as they please, It la taken from a Southern paper i—A disgraceful act of lanlkinism, which might have had the effect of disarranging all the preparations for the reception of the new Governor, waa discovered on Friday morning, when it was found by the signalman that during the night someone had spiked the gun proposed to bo used for announcing the approach of the o-a. Wakatipu. Word was sent to Cept. Halliday, who at once despatched a man to oxtract the nail which had been driven into the touch-hole. Thia was effected after same little trouble. In connection with tbe reception the “ Post” hae tha following ammfog anecdote“ Shortly after the gorgeous flag of the Corporation had been hoisted over the Municipal buildings on Friday morning, OU nf the Corporation employ" noticed that the festive bunting was chafing seriously against the top of a chimney in its immediate vicinity, He rushed at once into the Mayoral ofllee, and informed the Mayor of what wm going on. His Worship replied somewhat absently, 'ls it? Oh, pull it down then.' His informant promptly flew to obey the mayoral order as he understood it, and having summoned the assistance of another man, the twain proceeded with great agility to the roof of the Corporation buildings and commenced with the utmost expedition to pull down tht chi"nep against which the precious bunting WM chafing. With such energy did they buckle to their labor of love that, had not a pMsing Councillor happened to see them and give the alarm to the City Engineer, they would have had the peccant chimney down level with the roof in a brace of shakes. They desisted very reluctantly in compliance with a peremptory command, but evidently deemed themselves deeply wronged men.”
