The wretched weather that wa. experienced that winter, and the diflicultiea that had to be ovci-i-otne in getting suitable local stone caused the contrac to extend till the following November, to my serious loss. One creditor would not wait till I could pay, and having obtained judgment against me sold everything I possessed except the bed clothes, which the law provides should not be sold. I convened a meeting of my creditors ; they

took bo tdvene action. I heard that they were satisfied that I had acted honeetly. Indeed, I shortly became bookkeeper to one of them. Two or three years ago I wrote oat cheques to pay an those old accounts ; but, on looking at my then engagements I withheld them. lam able to pay now, and have great pleasure in handing you a cheque in settlement of your account against me in 1868.”
