TO THE KIIITOH. Sir, —I am glad that you have expressed your opinion with reference to the candidature of Mr Chrisp for a seat in the Municipal vehmigerielite of Gisborne. For my own part I fail to sec why Mr Chrisp should attempt to foist his services upon the ratepay ers of Gisborne. If I might be permitted to do so I should like to enquire what Mr Chrisp has done to entitle him to seek the suffrages of the ratepayers on this occasion ? Mr Chrisp may be an excellent financier, on his own account, but. whether, to use his own words, "to the best of my ability I have done all in my power to advance the best Interest of the Borough," must remain one of those great questions which have yet to be solved, Mr Chrisp claims that his long connection with the Harbor Department as Harbormaster has alone prevented him from taking a more active part in matters muni eipal. Dear me, what a fearful loss the community of Gisborne has sustained in consequence of the gallant captain’s inability to take office. Ratepayers of Gisborne, I beseech you, to bewail the fact, and to remember that our noble captain has sacrificed his talents and made a complete martyr of himself for the public weal. The candidate for municipal honors then proceeds to eulogisi himself to such an extent that it becomes fulsome in the extreme. However, I am of opinion that this worthy, respected, and res pectable gentleman has as much chance of heading the poll, or the nearest approach to it, as yours, 4c., Cunt per Cent,
