(BY CABLE,—REUTER'S TELXGRAMB), SYDNEY, Jan. 27, J. 40 p.m. Rain ceased, bat still dull and threatening. Australians, Ist innings, 73. No wickets down. Giffen 40, Bannerman 28. Both batting well. January, 28, 10.40 a.m. The Cricket match was resumed. The Australians first innings 133 withone wicket down. Giffen was stumped for 41 ; Bannerman, not out, 68 ; Murdoch, not out; 17. It commenced to rain, and the play was stopped in two hours ;* the wicket being heavy. Fresh wickets are being chosen for each innings. ADELAIDE, Jan. 28. Arrived—This morning : The Messaguire’s Maritime Company’s steamship Caledonian from Marseilles. MELBOURNE, Jan. 27. Sailed—This evening ; Taraweru, for the Bluff. This Day, Gibson, the Town Clerk of Dunedin, has arrived here, and is enquiring into the alleged frauds in connection with the municipal bonds. So far as is known there is no reason to believe that further frauds have been committed beyond those already brought to light. Intelligence has been received that the Wangilogong Gold Mine is flooded. The men who were at work at the time of the influx succeeded in escaping, and no loss of life has occurred.
