CORRESPONDENCE.

We do not holi ourselves responsible for the ong expressed by our correspondents]. .. ——:o: —• JOYCE V. GRAHAM AND KINRC jsg. TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —In the Judge’s summing up of the above case, he states, “Mr Goudy who is liquidator of the partnership estate would, I suppose, be competent to make ad .missions in some cases so as to bind the part) es whom he represented. As to Mr Goudy’s statements I see in them nothing more t) 4&n the expression of a desire to settle the matter amicably.” If Mr Goudy desired *x) settle, why did he not do so ? I can see no desire to settle in the whole transaction, < ar else the debt would have bean paid before! die expiration of four or five years. Mr Joyce stated that he spoke to Mr Fraser and Mr Graham about the matter on several occasions, when neither of them could deny but that the debt was honestly owing;; and still they will not pay, but try to parry it off by a quibble in law, which is anything but creditable. They knew the money was justly owing, then why not pay it honorably, or give Mr Joyce some guarantee of a payment at a future time ? But no, the fact of the matter is, they have tried to get out of paying it altogether, and it is a shame that such should be allowed to pass. “ Honesty is the best policy, but he w 7 ho acts on that principle is not an honest man,” It is quite leasable that there has been a lot acted on on Ip the priciples of honesty in the above case. It is high time that Judges and Magistrates should make a change in the practices which are so prevalent in Poverty Bay. There is very little room left to talk about landlord terrorism in Ireland. What man, who has a just cause, that will not fight for his rights. The reputation of Poverty Bay is sounded from the North to the South Island, all through cases of a similar nature. True there are honest and honorable men in Poverty Bay, but I am very sorry to say they are in the minority, most especially amongst the upper ten.— Yours, etc., Observer.
