[REUTER’S TELEGRAMS], BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.—(COPYRIGHT.) LONDON, Jan. 18. Canon Wilkinson has accepted the see of Truro, vacant by the appointment of Dr. Benson to the Primacy. Archdeacon Lewis has been appointed Bishop of Llandaff in the room of the late Dr. Ollivant. Intelligence has been received that the Bight Hon. W. E. Gladstone has reached Cannes. He has accomplished the journey without undue fatigue, and his healtn is in a more satisfactory state. The total reserve in the Bank of England in notes and bullion is £11,400,000, an hi* crease of £900,003 since last Thursday. The proportion of reserve to liabilities has advanced to 41 per cent. The Bank rate of discount remains at 5 per cent, and the market rate at 3J. Consols 100£. New Zealand Securities are firm at last quotations. Adelaide wheat remains at 46s to 49s ex store; and New Zealand ditto, 44s to 475. Adelaide flour, ex store, 335. Australian tallow—-best beef, 43s ; best mutton, 45s per cwt. January 19. A strike of extraordinary magnitude occurred among the employes on the Caledonian Railway Co.’s lines, and the traffic was completely paralysed. The efforts which have been made to induce the men to return to work have as yet proved unavailing. ST. PETERSBURG, Jan. 18. The Emperor Alexander in his customary New Years Speech pointed to his speedy coronation. BERLIN, Jan. 18. The Imperial Bank of Germany has reduced the rate of discount to 4 per cent.
BERLIN, Jan. X 9. A serious explo.ion occurred to-day at a powder mill in Minden, a etrongly fortified town in Westphalia, a groat portion of tho filaee has been shattered to pieces, and 18 ires were lost.
PARIS. Jan, 19. la the Chamber of Deputies to-day, Faillures, Minister of Interior, introduced a Bill to provide measures to preevnt issue of manifestoes by Bonapartists. The measure provides for the punishment of Buell offenders by imprisonment, instead of expulsion from France. Prince Krapotkine, and the leaden of the Socialist movement, have been sentenced to five yean penal servitude, and various terms of imprisonment were passed upon other socialist prisoners. A report is current that a widespread Legitimist plot is now in existence in Franco, under the leadership of Charrette,
