The Bank rate of discount remains at 5 per cent. The market rate has advanced j, and is now 3f. Wheat is unchanged : Adelaide, ex store; 48s 6d; New Zealand, ditto, 43s fid to 465. Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 335. Australian tallow ; best beef, 42s ; best mutton, 44s fid. Hides dull of sale at easier rates, Is Bd. The Lower Wool Market is quiet. Arrivals to date, for next series of auctions, now amount to 80,000 bales, January 12. The latest bulletin regarding the health of the Premier states that no important change in his condition has occurred. He is, however, confined to his room and it is currently reported that his medical advisers have ordered his removal to Cannes, on the Mediterranean coast of France. The rule nisi, for the new trial has been granted in the libel action Belt v. Laws, in which the plaintiff obtained a verdict for £5OO damages for statements in “ Vanity Fair,” that certain works shown by Belt as his own were another sculptors. NEW YORK, Jan. 12. It is now known that the loss of life occasioned by the recent fire at an hotel in Milwaukee was greater than was at first supposed. It has been proved that fully one hundred and thirty persons perished in the flames. PARIS, Jan. 11, The remains of the late M. Gambetta were translated to-day to Nice for interment, which will take place there on Saturday, the 13th inst. CAIRO, January 11. Sir Auckland Colville has resigned his position as British Controller-General of the Egyptian Finance. The resignation has been accepted by the Khedive, and the AngloFrench control, which existed since November 1879, has now finally ceased.
