MEETING OF MR C. D. BERRY’S CREDITOR'S.

j The meeting of Creditors convened by Mr ' Croft, the Trustee in C. D. Ward, who appeared for the 1 bankrupt said that such a thing whs impos- . sible. Remarks, anything but complimentary to the bankrupt, were bannied about the room, and generally the creditors hand a lively time. First one would sing out something, then another, until at last Mr Gough sang out “ Hould yer whist.” Eventually Mr Maynard proposed, and Mr A. Taylor seconded, that Major Pitt take the chair. Mr Ward said that as the bankrupt M’as absent he thought it would be better to have the meeting adjourned for a week, then the debtor would be present, and it would give him a chance of answering for himself. Mr Taylor said that Mr Ward M’as peri fectly well aware that the debtor could not i be present at this meeting. Cries of “ We want Berry here.” | Mr Gough said he quite agreed with the | meeting that Mr Berry should be present. Mr Ward said that if the meeting were , adjourned for a week Mr Berry would be I present, but be was perfectly prepared to go ' on. Mr Nolan, mho appeared for some of the creditors, said he knew Mr Croft, the Trustee, could not help himself according to the Act. Mr Croft confirmed this as the Act compelled that he, as trustee, should call a meeting when requested by a debtor to do so. Sundry remarks were made, and the M’ords “ cheek,” “ humbug,” and others of a like nature were used. After a perfect storm of abuse had been heaped upon the absent head of Mr Berry, Mr Maynard proposed, and Mr Gough seconded, “ That the meeting be adjourned until Monday next.” This was canied.
