The Australasian in speaking of the Sil’ Hercules blood remarked : “No family has gained such a reputation as that which descends from the Colonial-bred Sir Hercules. He was bred by Mr Donald Fraser, Rangitikei, by Traducer, dam Fair Lass, by Kiddlesworth, grand dam Fair Wave, imported from Sydney. Fair Wave was supposed to be one of the Grandest Arab mares ever imported to New Zealand. New Chum has shown his grand breeding both on the Turf and at the Stud. He made his first appearance in Wellington, where he started a 2| mile race, weight for age, beating Whitefoot, Gazelle, and others. Then went to Napier, where he was beaten by Never Miss by a head, New Chum carrying 211bs over, Never Miss beating Lady Grey and others. He then saddled for the Consolation, beating Wairarapa, Lady Grey and Wide-a-wake. Terms ; £3 3s each mare ; two or more mares the property of the same owner, as per agreement.
