[RKVWB'S «KLK(>BAMs]. BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH—(COPYRIGHT.) ALEXANDRIA, Dec. 21. General Sir Evelyn Wood, who has accepted the position of Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Army, arrived here to-day. A statement that MrJßredif has resumed his former position as Controller-General of the Egyptian Finance, is now authoritatively denied. PARIS, Dec. 21. The French Government has definitely decided to equip an expedition to Tonquin for the establishment of a French protectorate of that place, and it is announced that a vote to defray the expense Of the expedition to the credit of eleven million francs will be proposed, instead of nine millions as previously stated by M. Duclerc In the Chamber of Deputies. Dec, 22. Krapotkine one of the leaders of the Socialist movement, has been arrested at Lyons, and is now detained in prison. BERLIN, Deo. 20. A serious accident has occurred In a mine In Westphalia, whereby twenty lives were lost. The rope attached to the cage In which the miners were being brought up to the surface broke, and the men were precipitated to the bottom of the shaft. BERLIN, It has transpired that measures will shortly be adopted for the Increase of garrisons on the eastern frontiers of the Empire. Additional barracks are to be erected and railway extension will be rapidly carried on forthwith. CAPETOWN, Dee. 21. Telegrams are to hand from Petermaritsburg announcing that all arrangements for the reinstatement of Cetewayo as King of the Zulu Tribes have been completed, accompanied by British officers, who will take part in the ceremonial installation of King on his arrival in Zululund, and escorted by a strong detachment of British troops. Cetewayo set out for his capital from Petermaritzburg to-day. LONDON, Dee. to. Consols are quoted at 98j, decline of g. Bank rate remains at 0 per cent., and market rate of discount at 3J per cent.
