Match between Progress & Glenfern.

A large number of people assembled at the Makaraka Racecourse early this morning, including a sprinkling of ladies, to witness the maten between Progress and Glenfern, for £l5 a side. The former was the most fancied, and stripped well, whilst the latter was on the big side. Billy Adams piloted Progress, and Young Harries the other. Major Pitt, who acted as starter, sent the horses away well together, Glenfern soon going to the front, but only on sufferance, az at the quarter of a mile Progress came uy and passed the little bay. The latter, how ever, ran a game horse, and responded to every call made upon him, but had to finish two lengths behind the big brown.
