(by cable.—reuter’s telegrams). MELBOURNE, Dec. 20. At the wool sale to-day of Messrs. Goldsborough and Co., Limited, 5,400 bales were catalogued, of which 4,300 were sold. Very satisfactory prices w*ere realised, greasy merino ranging up to 14£d, and washed ditto to 25d. Shipping wheat per bushel, 4s 7d. Market unsteady, and prices have been heavily declining of late. A further decrease is not, however expected. Malting is steady at 3s 9d to 4s, nut the demand is not active. The market for New* Zealand oats is weak and irregular ; feeding qualities duty paid are w'ortn 3s 9d to 4s ; and milling ditto 4s 2d to 4s 3d. This Day. The Orient steamship Chimborazo has arrived from Plymouth. She left on November 6 th. An extensive fire occurred this morning on the premises of Messrs. Henderson, Law, and Co., wholesale chemists, 55 and 57, Russell-street, Melbourne. The fire raged for some time, but has now been completely subdued. The extent of the damage is not yet conclusively known, but the loss is be lieved to be very heavy.
