[per UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION], WELLINGTON, This Day. Mr. Munro addressed his constituents here last night, and received a unanimous votb of confidence. The Government have received by the mail the report of the result of the Matriculation held in New Zealand in connection with the London University. There were three candidates : one from Canterbury College, one from Otago University, and the third from Nelson College. Of these the first-named was unsuccessful, being rejected by the Examiners in German, and being also unread in Latin. The other two candidates were passed in the honors divisions No. 1207 (Mr J. W. Salmon, of Otago University) is placed equal with the first candidate in the original honors list. The place of the other candidate (Mr T. R. Fleming of Nelson College) is next to the 24th candidate in the original honors list. The result has been communicated to the Gilchrist Trustees and it is expected they will forward to the New Zealand Government an official notification that the Gilchrist Scholarship has been awarded to Mr Salmon. Messrs J. and D. Sinclair at Wainui-o-mata, have assigned their estate. It is understood the liabilities are about £ll,OOO, while the assets are set down at £25,000,

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A boy named Leonard Post was convicted yesterday morning at the Resident Magistrate’s Court, of breaking intp the shop of Messis Gould and Co., chemists, with the intention of stealing therefrom. The lad was ordered to be sent to the Industrial school. He had previously been seven times before the Court on charges of larceny, and had been whipped twice. A man named George Ruddick has been arrested at Rangiora for presenting a loaded revolver at another man.

The Grand Lodge of Good Templars have passed st resolution levying a special assessment of twopence per quarter on the members, to augment the Grand Lodge Funds so as to allow lecturing to proceed. In the Supreme Court the case, Cooney v. Union Insurance Company, claim £2OOO, for wrongful imprisonment, resulted in a verdict for plaintiff for £SOO. AUCKLAND, This day. Tuwhiao with sixty followers left Alexandra yesterday, en route for Napier. The formation of the New Zealand pedigree Sto k Company, has been announced. It is un amalgamation of interests of the Auckland Agricultural Company, and T. and S. Morrin.
