[reuter’s telegrams], BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.—(COPYRIGHT.) BERLIN, Dec. 14. The “ North German Gazette ” announces in an article to-day, that communications have recently passed between England and other European Powers regarding the Suez Canal, and that the British Government proposes to ensure maintenance of the neutrality of the Canal by the establshment of joint European protection. LONDON, Dec. 15. It is officially announced that the Right Hon. C. E. Childers has assumed the position of Chancellor of the Exchequer, vice the Right Hon. W. E. Gladstone resigned. The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is £11,300,000. Proposition of reserve to liabilities 41 per cent. The bank rate of discount remains at 5 per cent, and market rate, 3| per cent. Consols advanced to 99A. Markets for Colonial securities and produce are unchanged.
