A large number of horses were on the course yesterday morning, but very little fast work was done, owing to the hardness of the ground. Rewi did a good gallop over tlie Cup distance. The son of Mute had old Yatapa for a companion for the first mile, but he soon had him in trouble, finishing very strong. On the strength of this gallop he was freely backed, and now stands at Kill to 10. The Southern horses only did gentle exercise, Auckland Cup Bottinjf. Weldotne .tack is still firm for the Cup at 2 to 1: Turquoise at 100 to 15; Fitzhercules, 100 to 12; Rewi, 100 to 10 ; Vortex, 100 to 8. Agent is favourite for the Steeplechase at 100 to 40. Wellington Cup Soratokingj. WELLINGTON, Dee. 15. Matauaka was scratched for the Wellington Cup yesterday. CHRISTCHURCH? This Day. At a meeting of the C.J.C. Committee, held yesterday, it was resolved to erase the C.J.C. Handicap from the programme of the Spring Meeting, and substitute a race to be called the New Zealand Cup Handicap of 20 sovs. each, with 1000 sovs. added ; second horse, 100 sovs.; third, 50 sovs. It was also decided to have two Steeplechases at the Autumn Meeting, one of 200 sovs., added to a sweepstakes of 10 sovs.; and another Hunt Cup Trophy of 50 sovs., and 50 sovs in specie.
