Telephonic Communication between Gisborne and Ormond.
The Ormond Court House wm crowded last evening to discuss the above matter. Mr Burnett in the Chair. Captain Ferris in a few brief remarks introduced the subject, and stated that he had been asked to speak as to the unadvisability of a local storekeeper being appointed by the Government to conduct the work. Mr Barrie he had no doubt would act honorably, but it would occasion all sorts of insinuations. He suggested that it would be better if the Government would combine the office of Clerk of the Court, Manager of the Telephone department, and appoint an efficient person. Mr Barrie agreed with Mr Ferris after the explanation made. He admitted the value of the arguments used. A petition to the Government, setting forth Mr Ferris’s opinion, was signed by all. The usual votes of thanks were passed.
