[reuter’s telegrams], BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.—(COPYRIGHT.) LONDON, Dec. 5. Consols are quoted at 99g, ex div., the market rate of discount has been reduced by § to $ per cent. New Zealand securities remain at the following quotations :—Five per Cent. 10-40 Loan, 105 A ; Five per Cent. 1880 Loan, 104, ex div. ; Four and a Half per Cent. 1879-1904 Loan, 102|. Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, quoted at 4s, a decline of sixpence. New Zealand wheat, ex warehouse, remains at 43s 6d to 46s 6d, and Adelaide flour at 345. Australian tallow, unchanged at 42s for the best beef, and 44s 6d for the best mutton. At the wool auction to-day, the market was firm, and an active demand was experienced. The catalogue consisted of 11,000 bales. December 6. It is stated that the parleying which for some time past has been proceeding between the English and French Governments has failed to bring about an understanding regarding the settlement of affairs in Egypt, and that the French Government have now declined to accept the proposals made by the English Consul. The rumor has not, howover, received any reliable confirmation.
The Alhambra theatre, Leicester Square, was destroyed by fire to-day. Anthony Trollope, the novelist, who has been seriously ill for some time past, died today, aged 67. Consols advanced to ex div. The market for Colonial securities and produce is unchanged. At to-day’s wool sale 10,100 bales were offered, and an active demand for all descriptions was experienced. The Orient steamship Liguria arrived at Plymouth to-day from Melbourne, Oct. 25. PARIS, Dec. 6. The death is announced of M. Louis Blanc, political writer, aged 69.
