THE GISBORNE SAILING CLUB.

The inaugural match of the above took place on Saturday, and in addition to the members a number of gentlemen , were present. The Commodore, Captain Andrews, led the way in Mr Croft’s boat, followed by the vice-Commodore Mr H. C. Boylan, in the Water Witch, The Gertrude, Mr D. Johnston’s boat, and two others proceeded to the Lochnagar where they were hospitably entertained by Captain Perriam. Whilst on board the members of the Club had an opportunity of viewing the “Comet” which is to occasion such a surprise in about a fortnight s time. Some of those learned in boats asserted that her stem was too much amidahipsj whilst others maintained that her stern should have been further along the keelson. Again it was positively stated that the garboard streaks should have been nearer the top of the mainmast. Then again the main cleet should have been further abaft the upperson rope that hitches over the bearer co on the top of the main-brace. The steering gear was next examined, and it was agreed that with the wind “ Sou-west (and by sou,Ja little southerly, sir,” that she might accomplish the uneipialled time of a mile in--well say a day.
