Several visitors attending the Harbour Board meeting last night wondered as to whether they had dropped into a debatingclass or a school for oratory. Certainly they could not for a moment imagine they were present at a board where business was gupposed to be transacted. More stupid muddle, idle argument, and would-be airing of knowledge it would be really impossible to imagine than is observable night after night at the meetings of this august body. Lust night it took fully half an hour to discuss a paltry few shillings in connection with the wages to be paid to the wharfinger. In factj’ it would seem that the members find the board room very much more enjoyable than their own homes. In Auckland, Lyttelton or Dunedin the business of the Harbor Boards is transacted in an hour or so, but then of course they are small places compared to Gisborne. Let the meetings be held during the day instead of the evening, and then see how quickly matters would be disposed of.
