HOSPITAL COMMITTEE MEETING.
The adjourned meeting of the above was held hi the Court Room. Present: The Ven. Archdeacon Williams, in the chair, Dr. Pollen, Alessrs A. Davis, Brown, AfcKay, Butt, Chrisp and the Rev. J. AlcAra. The Alinutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A short report from the Matron of the Hospital was read, written during the absence ot the AVardsman, which showed that there were at present only three inmates, and that one death had occurred since the last meeting, that of the man whose supposed name was Cahill. Dr Pollen said, that whilst on the subject of patients, he might mention that he had, by direction of the R.AI., ordered that a woman (Airs Dawson), should lie received into the hospital, as she was suffering from mental disease.
■ A discussion ensued as to whether a i patient of this sort was adniissable. The I Act, however, was explained to mean that I patients of this sort should be admitted, as I the institution received assistance from the I Government. It was eventually decided to leave matters of this nature to t£ie discretion of Dr Pollen. The Treasurer’s report showed that £45 was owing on the Fever Ward, and that the general fund was in credit £6l 3s lOd, which amount would be added to by the Government by about £7O. The liabilities were £133 4s 3d on the general fund, and £45 on the building fund.
The Treasurer further stated that the con- ; tract for the Fever Ward would be completed I about the end of the week, and that the con- ■ tractor would then require his money. * It was agreed, on the motion of Captain Chrisp, seconded by Mr McKay, that the sum of £45 should be devoted to the building fund from the general fund. A most original letter , was read from Air J. Tutchen, in relation to the celebrated
“ Fatted Calf,” and asking that the Committee should apologise for the gross insults and slurs he had received. In the letter he mentioned that he had received slurs from the Treasurer. Mr E. K. Brown denied this, and stated that he had never spoken to Air Tutchen on the subject until the previous day, when that gentlemen appeared to be exceedingly irate and said that he had previously intended to put aside £lO a year towards the Hospital funds, and had altered his will in which he had benueathed to the institution £lOOO. Air Chrisp thought that Air Tutchen had been roughly used not alone by Air Ledger but others. Dr Pollen was of opinion that the Hospital Committee had nothing at all to do with the matter, but that it -was one for the consideration of the Sports Committee. A letter was then drafted by the Ven. Archdeacon expressive of regret that he should have been occasioned annoyance, but explaining that the subject was not one for the present Committee. Ou the motion of Mr E. K. Brown, seconded by Air Butt, a unanimous vote of thanks was accorded to Air AfcConnichie, his employes, and all who assisted in the recent concert. Alessrs Davis, AlcAra, and AlcKay were appointed a Visiting Committee.
